Internal Organizing

Internal organizing refers to efforts by activists to energize and mobilize all workers in the bargaining unit. Fostering solidarity and building bargaining power should be on-going activities for union leaders during contract campaigns. An internal organizing committee can be especially helpful during organizing campaigns. Employees have a fairly broad legal right to engage in union solicitation at work so an internal committee is able to conduct the following tasks:

	Providing leadership and inspiration to workers
	Obtaining and distributing information to workers and organizers
	Speaking out
	Handing out leaflets
	Soliciting union recognition cards
	Participating in strategy meetings
	Mobilizing for various organizing activities
	Setting examples for co-workers standing up for the union

How should we talk to a co-worker if we want them to do something?
Explain:

	What we're asking them to do
	Why we're doing the activity
	When and where it will be
	How long it will take
	Who will be participating
	What are the potential risks
	Why we need your help
