The most important aspect of any campaign for workplace democracy is the development of a workable plan. To build strength among workers, your plan must be workable, and realistic.

How do we build a plan?

Remember the five steps to successful organizing.

Locate - We need to know every employee in the workplace, by name, address, telephone number, job title, and work location.

Educate - We must counter the Union Buster by educating employees about what you are trying to achieve with a Union.

Inoculate - We must educate employees about the Employer's anti-union campaign, before the employer spreads misinformation.

Communicate/Activate - We must develop a communications network in the workplace, and use that network to counter misinformation, as well as to build strength.

So, how do we build a plan?

The IBEW stands ready to assist you in development of a workable plan. Some of the basics of planning are included here:

BASIC CONCEPTS OF PLANNING

*   Planning implies a conscious, deliberate process

*   Planning is nearly impossible in the middle of a crisis

*   Planning is most effective when those responsible for implementing the plan are involved in developing the plan

*   Planning should be flexible and adapt to changed circumstances

*   Planning should help predict or forecast trends of change

*   Planning should never become an excuse for inaction

*   Nothing ever goes precisely according to plan!
