Congratulations! Being elected or appointed to a union leadership position is an honor. But it can be a bit overwhelming. The Field Guide to Union Leadership was developed with this thought in mind. This Website on CD-ROM is a curriculum to help leaders fulfill their obligations upon assuming office. If you’re not sure what questions to ask and wondering where to start, begin here.

The Field Guide provides an overview of the technical requirements for managing a local union. Understanding basic union policies and procedures is a minimum requirement for effective union leadership. The Guide assumes familiarity with and local union procedures such as monthly business meetings. Take advantage of any start-up services offered by your international. The more you can learn about the business aspects of your union the more likely you will facilitate its organizing and service mission.
