By-Laws

Keep in mind that all By-Laws of the local union are subordinate to the International Constitution as well as applicable laws. The following language from the Boilermakers is typical:

Local Lodge By-Laws must conform with the International Constitution as well as local, state (or provincial), and federal laws. When local lodges seek to revise their by-laws, they need to check with the International office to ensure that the language they will use is consistent with the requirements of all these areas. By-laws which do not conform to the requirements set in any of these areas will be void. Local lodge officers are strongly encouraged to contact the International office before the local lodge votes on by-laws revisions in order to avoid any unnecessary complications.
